First-Time Homebuyers: Changing Over Time

The National Association of REALTORS® has tracked the demographics of first-time homebuyers since 1981 in the Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers. Over time, first-time homebuyers have become a smaller share of all buyers. First-time buyers are more likely to be single females, and increasingly are moving from living with parents, relatives, or friends to buying.
