Census Bureau: U.S. Economy Added Nearly 245,000 Nonemployer Businesses in 2012

The number of businesses without paid employees in the U.S. reached 22.7 million in 2012, up 1.1 percent from 2011, according to statistics recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. This marks the third straight annual increase in nonemployer businesses.
